How durable is the Vtech Kidizoom Spin and Smile Digital Camera?

Just like the other kids digial cameras from Vtech, this is a tough camera. My 4 year old has the Vtech Kidizoom Plus and he and his little brother have dropped it several times and it still works perfectly.

Vtech make camreas with buttons that are the perfect size for little hands, but are not so easy to press that they’ll set off features if the camera is stuffed into a bag.

You can actually buy a special Vtech Kidizoom Plus case which will make sure that your child’s Kidizoom stays safe and snug when you’re travelling with it.

You can see in the picture below that the buttons have simple icons on them which make it super easy for even the youngest child to know what each button does.

What do all those buttons on the Spin and Smile do?

How to take great pictures with the Vtech Kidizoom Spin and Smile Camera

  1. First, make sure to slide the wrist strap over your kids hand to help them hold their Kidizoom properly (and to prevent it being damaged if they drop it).
  2. There are two ways to look at the photo before you taking it. You can either use the colour LCD screen on the back of the Kidizoom, or the dual viewfinders above the screen, but what you see through the dual viewfinders may not be the same as the colour LCD screen and in final pics.
  3. Now you are ready to take some photos! Make sure your child holds their Kidizoom as still as they can with both hands.
  4. Get them close to the object they’re taking a photo of. Be careful not to get too close or your photo will be blurry. It’s best to stand at least 1.5 feet away. This can take some extra practice so don’t worry if they don’t get their photo right the first time.
  5. The Kidizoom has an automatic flash so don’t worry if you think the photo might be a little dark. If  taking outdoor photos on a sunny day, get your child to stand with the sun behind them while taking photos.
  6. Listen for the “click” the Kidizoom makes when you have taken a photo before moving the camera. Once you hear the clicking sound, you can take another photo!

How easy is it to change the batteries on the Kidizoom Spin and Smile?

The Vteck Kidizoom Spin and Smile takes 4 AA size batteries which are in 2 battery compartments in the “wings” of the camera. Rechargeable batteries can be used. Changing the batteries is easy with the Kidizoom Spin and Smile. No screwdriver needed! Just move the 2 sets of triggers at the base of the battery compartment to open the cover, replace the batteries then click the covers back in place.

The Vtech Kidizoom Spin and Smile camera is such great fun for kids! They’ll have fun taking photos of their friends, family and surroundings and then spin the lense to take pictures of themselves! There’s even a self timer function so kids can join their freinds for the photo!

There are also 5 games built into the Vtech Kidizoom Spin and Smile camera for kids, which use the pictures your child has taken to make the games more exciting:

2. Funky Hair Salon – chase the arrows on the screen to give customers a new hairstyle, using pictures of yourself or your friends

Vtech Kidizoom vs Vtech Kidizoom plus vs Kidizoom Spin and Smile

The Kidizoom Spin and Smile is the updated version of the Kidizoom Plus. The standard Vtech Kidizoom is the entry-level kids digital camera from Vtech.  see the table below to see how the  3 Vtech cameras compare:

The Kidizoom Plus is definitely more advanced than the standard Kidizoom. The video function and the photo editing and choice of games make it a great medium range choice!
However the Kidizoom Spin and Smile deserves its place as the top of the range kids digital camera. The spinning lens makes taking self potraits easy and the ability to use your own pictures in the built in games is going to bring a smile to any child’s face!, especially good for those long car journeys!
I also love that changing the battery is less of a hassle with the Kidizoom Spin and Smile.
