9 Cool Digital Camera Projects for Young Kids

Kids love cameras, whether it’s the built-in type on their parents mobile phones or whether it’s their very own kids digital camera, like the Kidizoom Plus or the Disney kids digital cameras. If your kids, like mine, are experts at taking hundreds of random photos, here’s 9 cool digital camera projects that will  help focus their budding photographic skills.

1. About Me Journal

Your child will love taking photos of themselves, their special objects and their surroundings. Print off these pictures and combine them into an “About Me” Journal. An alternative to this is to make a “My Day” Journal about a special day, or a special outing.

(Photo tip: The Vtech Kidizoom Spin and Smile makes taking self portraits a breeze. Rotate the lens towards you to see yourself on the camera screen)

2. Photo Puzzle

Take that cool photo of a loved one, print it off, stick it onto card or laminate it, cut it into pieces and you have a quick and easy to make photo puzzle gift!

3. What Am I?

There’ll be some great and some not so great pictures in your child’s photo library. Using existing photos or by taking new photos, get your child to challenge you to play the “Mystery Object” game to guess the name of the object in the picture.

4. Photo crafts

Kodak have same great art projects that kids can create using a digital camera. Check this Kodak link to find  detailed instructions on how to make a friends hanging mobile, masks and photo puppets with your kids digital photos.

5. Young scientist

Help your young scientist take pictures of a plant or an animal every few days and track how it grows over time. Put a ruler or a tape measure in the picture for an easy way to document the actual amount of growth.

6. Shape hunt

Your child will love going on a shape hunt! For younger children, help them hunt and photograph circles and for older children try finding hexagons, isosceles triangles or trapezoids.

7. Create a story

Help your child come up with a topic for a short story they’d like to write, then get them to take photos to illustrate their written work.

8. Picture editing

Most kids digital cameras come with editing software. Upload your kids photos to your computer and let them have fun playing with the different effects. Can they make that photo of themselves look like their favorite cartoon character?

9. Explore zoom

Really young kids will have lots of fun playing with the zoom function of their digital camera. Help them take pictures using no zoom and 2x zoom (The Kidizoom Spin and Smile even has 4X zoom for really close up pictures)
